Electrifying Car Crash

Another run that was scary where we weren’t sure what we were getting into was when a car ran into one of those power substations with all of the big wires. When we rolled up, there was quite a bit of fluid around. The stations use this coolant oil, which can cause cancer, and this stuff was all over.

The car was embedded inside the substation, and with all of the wires around we didn’t know if we had an electrified car. Plus it was dark so we didn’t know if there were wires on the ground that we could step on. So we had to make a big decision because there were four people in that car.

I took the initiative (that could have been wrong) to touch the car to see if it was electrified or not. It wasn’t, but we did have to work in all of the oil and damaged wires. We had to get the people out without knowing if or when the wires might touch the car, electrocuting us.

We won on that one. We got the people out, the gas and electric company got there to shut the power off, and the tow truck company was able to get the car out. But that was kind of scary.
